CIRCULAR PATH “VUELTA A LA ROMERIA”

Our route begins in the park of La Estacá, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the village. We start walking along the asphalted road called “Pista de Ronda”.
Ronda”.

Along this road we can find orchards that run parallel to the river.
parallel to the river. After about 700 metres the asphalted road
disappears to give way to a dirt track that will lead us to the cortijo El Marques
to the El Marques farmhouse.

During this stretch, there are herbaceous crops on both sides of the lane.
of the track. Once we have climbed up to the “El Marques” farmhouse,
we take the path on the left (to the right we head towards the Cerro
towards the Cerro de las Salinas) which will lead us to a long straight road, and at the end of this stretch we come across a pine forest called “los pinitos del Marques”, the place where the famous pilgrimage of the village of Arriate takes place in the month of May.
May. These pines are very peculiar as they stand out from the holm oak forest that grows around them. From this place you can also see impressive views of the village of Arriate.
Arriate.

We continue our path towards a gentle descent through holm oaks, where we can find several estates dedicated to the cultivation and exploitation of vines, which create some marvellous thistles, of great relevance both within and outside our borders. This area also stands out for its wide range of rural houses and hotels.

At kilometre 4 we come to the Ermita de los Frontones, where for many years a mass was held and which was an obligatory stop for all the pilgrims on the aforementioned Arriate Pilgrimage. Nowadays this hermitage is more deteriorated, being practically in ruins.

We continue our route and after passing the Frontones we reach the Huertas Abajo, where we have several important forks.
There are several important forks in the road which will lead us to the right path.

The first is at approximately kilometre 5. It is a small roundabout where we have to take the road to the left (second exit).
to the left (second exit).

After this fork in the road and after about 500 metres you will come to Venta el Polvorilla.
after 500 metres we find the Venta el Polvorilla, well known by all the people of
Arriateños and of great tradition in the area.

The next crossroads is about 100 metres after passing the Venta. On this occasion, we must take a path to the right that will take us along the Carril de la Sarna to the outskirts of Arriate. In this section we can find a source of sulphurous waters which have a large number of beneficial properties for health, mainly for skin treatments.

After passing the railway track, we come to the third important fork in the road, the junction towards the Arroyo de Espejo, where we will have to take the path to the right.
where we will have to take the path on the left in order to follow our path correctly.

From here the track will continue practically parallel to the railway line until it reaches the town of Arriate.
until we reach the municipality of Arriate, having finished our stage with the entrance to the village, in the neighbourhood of El Membrillar.

If the intention is to finish the route at the point where it began, just head towards the area around the church, and taking one of the streets that descends towards the river, we reach the 1 de Mayo bridge, from which only a fairly steep but short distance separates us from the end of the route.
This is the end of our route in an area of great scenic value, where you can see a fairly complete panoramic view of the village with the church of San Juan de Letrán as a backdrop.
